Chapter 1: Relative Humidity – explains the meaning of humidity and gives you an understanding of what humidity really is and how it works.
Chapter 2: Saturation – takes your understanding of humidity a step further and reveals how climate change is influenced by temperature.
Chapter 3: Equilibrium Relative Humidity – this will be a new term to most people but this property of substances when understood explains so much about the way moisture in the air affects everything around us.
These first three chapters are closely linked and will give you the tools to understand the effects of moisture in the air. Where climate change results in a warmer and wetter environment the principles described in these chapters will help you understand some of the things you see happening around you. In the remaining chapters I have picked out things that caught my attention and I show how to apply the link between moisture and temperature and show climate change can and probably will affect the world around us.
Chapter 4: Hurricanes, Cyclones and Typhoons – wherever you live in the world you may have direct experience, be under threat or will certainly will know about these powerful destructive forces of nature. The role of water vapour and the consequences of global warming are explained.
Chapter 5: Health – I mentioned to a friend about writing on damp climate affecting health. He said “it’s obvious, everyone knows that”. So if it’s so obvious, how come there’s no simple explanation?
Chapter 6: Food – the amount of information on moisture concerning food safety and quality is vast. I’ve given my own personal take on the subject.
Chapter 7: Salt – a long relationship exists between humans and salt because of the way it interacts with moisture. This chapter shines some light on its uniqueness.
Chapter 8: Potato Blight – potatoes and other crops are being attacked by blight and there is no doubt in the link to the climate.
Chapter 9: House Mites – my favourite chapter. It may seem a strange choice of topic, but this chapter brings together all the different principles and shows us how mother nature got there first!
